Weather Forecast data in Navily is provided by GreatCircle who uses the GFS and Arome data models to establish its forecasts.
The Protection Score is calculated by comparing the protection data available on each anchorage with the following data from the weather forecasts : wind speed and gusts, wind angle, primary swell angle & swell height. Our algorithm then calculates a protection score that represents how ideal an anchorage is given the predicted weather.
Keep in mind however that an anchorage might have a great protection score and still be a poor choice for other reasons : Loud, bad holding, crowded… In the same way, an anchorage might have a bad score and still be acceptable because the forecast predicts little swell and little to no wind.
